The meat slaughtered for the feast day of People of the book
According
to Syeikh Yusuf al-Qardhawi in the book of Halal wa al-Haram, Islamic scholars have different opinion about this. One
group allowed it and the other forbid it.
The scholars who allowed it, has the requirement which is in
the moment of slaughtered, the name of their God is not mentioned. If the name
of their god is mentioned, then it is haram because it is slaughtered for the
purpose of worship other than Allah (uhilla li ghairillah).
But if do not know it was mentioned the name of their god or
not, then it falls into the category أن ما غاب عنا
لا نسأل عنه (That what we have missed, we do not ask about). Further article

In addition, there is and atsar narrated form Abu
Darda’, when he asked about this matter, he allowed the questioner to eat knowingly
that the meat is for the feast day of people of the book.
Imam Malik also allowed it with status of makruh
(hated) but no haram. The status of makruh is a circumspection that this
matter can fall into the category of uhilla li ghairillah. But this is
not haram because the fact that Allah allowed it the food by people of the book
as mentioned in the al-Maidah: 5.
